Preston Drainage Company records (Collection 3891), 1904-1999, 4 linear feet

The Preston Drainage Company was a private sewage disposal company that served the residents of Haverford Township, Pennsylvania, from 1905 to 1999. The first shareholders of the company were residents who would also be customers. The company attached its pipes to the Lower Merion Township’s sewer lines and charged customers based on the number and types of fixtures they had, not the volume of waste they produced. Eventually, rising costs forced the company to dissolve and turn over its lines to Haverford Township. The collection includes minute books, stock books, tax filings, Pennsylvania Utility Commission filings, client billings, correspondence, company liquidation records, blueprints, agreements and contracts, printed materials, a metal embossing stamp, and other items.
